The News, Eats & Events Shaping Western New York |
Strawberry season is in full swing across Western New York, inviting locals to enjoy vibrant, freshly picked berries straight from area farms. This beloved tradition lasts just three to four weeks from mid-June, with timing closely tied to local weather. Greg's U-Pick Farm in Clarence Center features strawberries along with blueberries, vegetables, and homemade bakery treats, plus family-friendly fall activities and farm-raised meats. Paul's Organic Farm in Colden stands out as the region’s only wind-powered organic farm, providing u-pick organic strawberries, apples, and full-spectrum CBD oil, all cultivated with eco-conscious methods. Summer Breeze Strawberries in Castile, near Letchworth State Park, offers a unique hydroponic u-pick experience from July to October, with easy-access picking for all ages. Candella's Farm & Greenhouses in Marcy sets itself apart with a vast strawberry field and additional u-pick berry options through early summer. Visiting these farms supports local growers while delivering a sweet, seasonal outing for the whole family. Read More... |
Nine rural branches of the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library have secured grants through the Rural Library Grant Program, thanks to a $1.5 million commitment from the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation for 2026–2028.
This funding, co-administered by the Western New York Library Resources Council and Rochester Regional Library Council, targets small communities across Western New York.
Projects funded by the grants will boost community engagement, increase educational opportunities, and expand access to services in underserved areas, from native plant gardens and kayak lending programs to work pods and youth skill-building initiatives.
Branch winners include libraries in Springville, Boston, Collins, North Collins, Angola, East Aurora, Tonawanda, Elma, and Grand Island, each receiving support for unique, locally driven projects.
These investments reinforce the vital role rural libraries play in connecting residents to education, technology, employment resources, and lifelong learning. The grants promise continued innovation and welcoming spaces for Western New York communities. Read More... |
